The holidays can be stressful and my anxiety kicks in around Thanksgiving and does not end till after my birthday in January. It is sometimes hard to stay stress-free with back to back holidays and all the events in between. Here are some tips on how I conquer the holidays.Get your Christmas tree up as soon as possible. I prefer to have mines up the day after Thanksgiving if I’m not hosting any events at my place Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving weekend. If you are like me and everything has to be perfect on the tree, this can be a very time-consuming task. Get it out the way early so you don’t have to stress over it. It adds beauty to your place and will put you in the holiday spirit. Don’t forget to play your favorite holiday tunes because it adds to the atmosphere. Online shopping and gift cards are my friends. Shopping online saves me time, money, and stress. Unless you like spending hours in traffic or in the stores, this is the best way to go. Gift cards are an awesome gift as well. It keeps me from stressing over the perfect gift and I like to add a loving message to the gift cards to make them more sentimental. When I’m really being lazy and avoiding stress, I have my online gifts delivered to the appropriate parties. Don’t forget to take advantage of the free store gift wrapping.I strategize when I am determining which events I will attend. I get a ton of invites to events and gathering around the holiday time. Although, I would love to attend each and every one of them; there is just not enough time in the day. I keep myself sane and maximize my time by hanging out with my different circles of friends at events where almost everyone will be there. This takes the stress away from trying to visit everyone individually. The time and energy this saves is priceless. If your friends are anything like my friends; we always have a blast when we are all together so that’s a great incentive.
What adult really wants to stand in line for hours so the kids can see Santa? (No offense Santa) An easy way to fix this problem is to get your family and friends to split the cost of hiring a private Santa. Instead of one $20 picture, you get to take as many pictures as you want without the hassle of waiting in a long line. Another great option is the Santa video chat. This year I did video chat with Santa for my niece and nephews. Best decision ever, Santa called them and they called me to talk all about it. The kids got to chat with Santa and I got several hours of my day back. This was a win-win for everyone. Take some time out to do something just for you. This year I went on two-holiday vacations. This was my time to unwind, have fun and goal set for the New Year. This was my me time and I enjoyed it. Normally my me time around the holiday is spent getting a massage or a day in a hotel away from everyone and everything. If your budget allows; holiday vacations are the best. Your kids will talk about the memories and experience for the rest of their lives and you don’t have to shop around for gifts.
This year I tried a digital holiday card. No postage necessary. You can text, email, and post them on your social media. No signing cards and hoping they make it in time. Also, if you forgot or remember someone, all you have to do is find the image and hit the send button. Maybe, next year I will convince my son to join me.
Last but not least I enjoy myself by soaking it all in. Enjoy the time off work. Sleep in a little. Spend time with that special someone. Start a new holiday tradition. YOLO- You Only Live Once so make the best of it. After all its the most wonderful time of the year😉
