This weekend I had the opportunity to do a helicopter tour with Vertiport VIP Helicopter Tours. This was such an amazing experience. Everything about the process is easy so let’s get to it.
The booking process is easy and completed on Vertiports website https://vertiportviptours.com/. (Use Code 077) Vertiport website gives you detailed informed on each of their tours. There is the Chicago Romance Tour, if you are trying to spice up your love life or planning an unforgettable date experience. The Private Tour is for anyone who does not want to share this experience with strangers. The Fireworks Tour allows you to see Navy Piers firework from the sky. How awesome is this? The Chicago Pilot Experience allows you to assist the pilot with the flight. (I think I will try this one next time.) The most popular tour is the the standard tour which is a 12 -15 minute helicopter ride around the sky’s of downtown Chicago. These tours are found on the tours section of the webpage. Pick the tour you want and follow the booking procedures. The booking process requires you to give your weight 😟. Be honest, because you step on a scale during the check in.
When I arrived at Vertiport (located at 1339 South Woods) there was plenty of parking in their private parking lot. I walked in, took a few pictures by their Chicago Mural Wall, then checked in with Kayla. Kayla was extremely friendly. She took my weight and went over the disclaimers and waiver I was required to sign. There was also a quick safety video. After I finished with the check in process, I waited in their cozy waiting area until it was time for my helicopter tour.
Now we are getting to the good part. It’s my time for the tour. I was escorted out to heliport area to board the helicopter. I was fortunate enough to have a private tour. My pilot was Nick McCoy and he took me up on the Guimbal Cabri G2. This was a small helicopter with partial glass flooring. Nick gave me a few instructions, we put our head sets on so we could hear each other talk. He could tell I was nerves, so he explained the process again and even explained all the little sound the helicopter was making as it started up.
The ride up in the helicopter was a little bumpy, but once we leveled off it was a smooth ride. Nick did an excellent job with his narration of the city. In addition to narrating my tour, he would tell me when to take picture to ensure I got some excellent shots from my phone. He was very personable and knowledgeable. He noticed I kept closing my eyes when we turned (vertigo) so he taught me a trick to keep me from getting dizzy and it worked. I enjoyed my ride with Nick and was a little sad when it came to an end.
Once the helicopter landed, I thanked Nick for such an amazing ride. Vertiport staff escorted me to back to lobby. We took a few more pictures and I headed out to my car. Thank you Vertiport for an unforgettable experience. It was truly unforgettable. A special THANK YOU to Dan Mojica for setting this up for me and Shaun Kelley Media for the awesome pictures.
